PM Lee Shows Support for Local Farmers

The Sustenir team had the honour of meeting Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister for Trade and Industry Dr. Koh Poh Koon at the 2018 Yio Chu Kang Community Day Farmers Market on August 25.

Speaking at a roundtable discussion on the morning of the event, SMS Koh – who also delivered a keynote speech at Sustenir’s launch event on June 20 – pledged even greater support for the local community, saying that local farms are essential to building a more sustainable future for Singapore.

Later in the day, Guest of Honour for the event Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong – who is also the minister for Ang Mo Kio, the district in which the market was held – visited the 16 booths later expressing on his personal Twitter feed that he was ‘happy to see residents both young and old learning and enjoying themselves.

Organised by  Singapore Agro-Food Enterprises Federation Limited (SAFEF) the Yio Chu Kang Farmers Market gives Singaporean farmers a platform.

SAFEF organises farmers markets every month with the September edition set to take place at myVillage in Serangoon on September 22 and 23, and the October market happening in Esplanade Park on Saturday 28 October.
