Bagel-Flavoured Kale Chips

Tastes like a bagel without the calories

A fun low-carb snack idea

I’m a sucker for crispy potato chips and bagels. But as we all know that’s a recipe for disaster. So in search for healthier options, I decided to get a bit creative with my current obsession: kale chips.

First of let me tell you why I love kale chips so much. Simple. It’s very crunchy. It gives me the same satisfaction as eating potato chips minus the empty calories. Plus of course, it’s a super green and is packed with nutrients and antioxidants. Win win situation.

I’ve been wanting to experiment on different kale chips flavours and stumbled upon this recipe while looking for spices to play around with. A few months ago I bought this Everything But The Bagel seasoning from Trader Joes. Seriously it tastes like a bagel, without the bagel. I thought I would I sprinkle it on top of a fresh batch of kale chips and let me just say, I’m very happy it worked out. It does taste like a bagel without a the carbs of a bagel and with the crunch of a potato chip.


1 Bag of Sustenir Kinky Kale (150g)

Olive oil spray

Baking paper

Trader Joes everything but the bagel seasoning to taste


Now if you don’t have Everything But The Bagel seasoning, it’s easy to copy.


Sea Salt

Dried minced garlic

Onion powder

Sesame seeds (white and black mix)


  1. Pre-heat oven at 170 degrees celsius
  2. Lay baking sheet on a flat baking tray
  3. Cut kale into bite size pieces (avoid using the thick stalks)

4. Spray evenly with olive oil

5. Season with Everything But the Bagel Mix (create your own mix with the ingredients listed above)

6. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes

7. Take it out of the oven and separate the leaves

8. Bake again for 10 minutes

9. Let it out to dry for 5 minutes

10. Devour

For that extra bagel-feel try pairing these with cream cheese dip.
