5 Places You Didn’t Know Used Locally Grown Produce

The eat local movement has been gathering pace across the world for some time now. But in a country like Singapore, which imports between 90 and 95 percent of the food we eat, you could be forgiven for thinking it hasn’t really caught on.

Well maybe its time to look a little closer.

At Sustenir, we’re looking to reduce the carbon footprint of the food we eat – our ‘carbon foodprint’ if you will – so we only grow produce for you, our local community. Nothing imported, nothing exported.

This not only improves the quality – and therefore the taste – of the produce we grow, it also proves that eat local movement is alive and kicking even in Singapore. And we’re just getting started.

#3 Employees Only, Amoy St.

One question we get asked a lot is ‘how do I cook kale?’ Well, the simple answer is, you don’t have to, it tastes great raw and straight from the bag. But if you want to cook it, sautéing is a great option, as shown by our friends at mysterious New York-style cocktail bar Employees Only.

Contrary to what the name suggests, anyone can visit Employees Only for an award-winning cocktail or two, or three… And why not try the rough chop Toscano kale, sautéed with minced garlic, olive oil and your choice of either chicken or vegetable stock.
